Monday 25 November 2019 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks day one of the 16 Days of Activism.

Each year, from 25 November to 10 December, World Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism campaign calls for action against one of the world’s most persistent violations of human rights – violence against women.

During the 16 Days of Activism, people around the world will unite to raise awareness about gender-based violence, challenge discriminatory attitudes and call for improved laws and services to end violence against women for good.

Every year, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign either introduces a new theme, or continues an old theme. The theme focuses on one particular area of gender inequality and works to bring attention to these issues and make changes that will have an impact. The Center for Women’s Global Leadership sends out a “Take Action Kit” every year, detailing how participants can get involved and campaign in order to make a change. The chosen theme in 2019 that acknowledged the 16 Days of Activism against Gender- Based Violence was Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape!
